Access to modern health services has historically been one of the greatest challenges for island communities. For many women in Naxos and the surrounding islands, a scheduled breast examination until now meant travel, expenses, loss of time, and often postponements that relegated prevention to a secondary role. <\/p>\n

The operation of the new Breast Center at Naxos Medical is set to change this reality, offering for the first time on the island comprehensive services for prevention, imaging, diagnosis, and clinical assessment by specialized scientists. This represents a significant investment in women’s health, as well as a step that enhances equitable access for residents of island Greece to services comparable to those in major urban centers. <\/p>\n

The founder and scientific director of Naxos Medical, Stelios Vitzilaios, speaks to NaxosPress about the vision behind the creation of the Breast Center, the needs that led to its implementation, and the new reality being shaped for women in Naxos and the Cyclades.<\/p>\n

What does the creation of the new Breast Center signify for Naxos Medical?<\/h3>\n

“For us, it signifies a significant upgrade in the field of prevention and Primary Health Care for the general population of our island. It is a dream come true, an important step that unites clinical medicine with technology to maximize the health benefits for women.”<\/p>\n

How was the idea for the Breast Center conceived?<\/h3>\n

“This idea was initially conceived based on planning, as an area for the development of a comprehensive Primary Health Care unit. However, its completion time arose as a necessity, following demand from women who visited Naxos Medical for examinations by breast surgeon Mr. Kotsifopoulos and radiologist Mr. Stamelos. <\/p>\n

Essentially, the unmet need of women who came for scheduled check-ups to receive comprehensive preventive health care on our island was the reason that prompted the implementation of this important project. We were asked to support the prevention and maintenance of women’s health on our island, and we had to respond.” <\/p>\n

Which women do you estimate will benefit most from this new service?<\/h3>\n

“Certainly! Both young women with a family history, middle-aged women who need to be screened anyway, and older women who have not been screened or have not traveled to an urban center for this purpose for years, will now be able to be examined by a specialized breast physician and undergo digital mammography with tomosynthesis and ultrasound at Naxos Medical.”<\/p>\n

What services does the Breast Center now offer?<\/h3>\n

“As we already mentioned, the vision was to create a model Breast Center at Naxos Medical, focusing on prevention. This, therefore, required the combination of services related to high-level imaging, as well as the corresponding medical specialties. <\/p>\n

This is now a reality, as women in Naxos and the surrounding islands can undergo modern mammography, modern ultrasound with a specialized breast imaging probe, and simultaneously be examined by radiologist Mr. Stamelos, military breast surgeon Mr. Kotsifopoulos, and military plastic and reconstructive surgeon Mr. Moustakis. Comprehensive diagnosis and clinical examination at Naxos Medical!” <\/p>\n

Is it an exaggeration to say that women in the Cyclades can now have services comparable to those in large cities?<\/h3>\n

“No, it is not an exaggeration at all. Indeed, at Naxos Medical, women in Naxos and the Cyclades can access Primary Health Care services comparable to those in major urban centers, without travel and additional cost and time.”<\/p>\n

In one phrase, what does the new Breast Center mean for women?<\/h3>\n

“In one phrase it means: equitable access, early diagnosis, and quality care, a center of life-prevention and support for every woman!”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
